Recent Recall of Granny Smith and Gala Apples from the United States is Limited to Products of a Single California Packing House

Manila, January 23, 2015 – 1the recent recall of Granny Smith and Gala Apples from the United States is limited to products packed by a single packing house in California (Bidart Brothers). There are no known problems for apples exported from other origins in the United States, including Washington State, as has been made clear by the U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Washington State is the largest exporter of U.S. apples to the Philippines.

CDC and FDA have confirmed that the only apples involved were those originating from the single packing house in California. Apples from other origins, including Washington State, are safe to eat.
