Rotating brownouts in Luzon, maaaring maranasan ngayong March

Based on a study na isinagawa ng First Gen Corp., maaaring makaranas ng isa hanggang apat na oras ng rotating brownouts ang ilang bahagi ng Luzon mula March 1-14 ngayong taon.

According to Carlos Vega, Assistant Vice President of First Gen Corp., sa weekdays maaaring dumating ang mga brownouts. “Weekdays such as Tuesday and Wednesday, and even Thursday- those are the highest demand days of the week na most vulnerable where brownouts can occur.”

President and COO of First Gen Corp Francis Giles Puno explains, “It will be very critical because the economy is going to grow- it’s an election year and with steady economic growth, supply is going to be tight.”

Some consumers are now buying generators to prepare for the coming brownouts. Ayon sa mga negosyante sa Raon, prices of generator sets might increase in the coming summer months.

Meralco has conducted drills on the use of big generator sets in businesses and industries to lessen the load on Meralco. Joel Zaldarriaga, spokesperson for Meralco adds, “Pag nagdeload sila, yung kapasidad magagamit ng ibang residential area.”

Come April and May, may possibility namang tumaas ang singil sa kuryente.

At kahit ordinaryong konsumer, puwedeng makatulong dito.

1. Gumamit ng compact fluorescent lights (CFLs) instead of incandescent bulbs
2. Do your ironing and laundry in bulk
3. Open refrigerators only when needed
4. Make sure that household appliances are well-maintained in order
5. Unplug appliances when not in use, specifically those which have a stand-by mode function. Simply turning these appliances off is not enough because electrical appliances/devices still consume power while in stand-by mode.
