JM De Guzman is back on track after being sidelined for almost a year because of a personal crisis. He was cast in the Cinema Originals entry “That Thing Called Tadhana” opposite award-winning Kapamilya actress Angelica Panganiban. The movie is written and directed by Antoinette Jadaone who did the current hit comedy “Beauty in a Bottle.”

“It feels good to have finished a movie,” said JM who is taking part in the Cinema One Originals for the first time. It is also his first time to work with Angelica and with director Tonette. “That Thing Called Tadhana” is also his first movie in two years.

In the movie, JM is playing the role of Anthony, an artist. He has a different outlook about love and moving on. “It’s not just a love story but a story on life as well – how are you going to move on if you lose something important to you,” he explained.

JM did a cameo in the Kathryn Bernardo-Daniel Padilla starrer “She’s Dating a Gangster.” That was the time he was given the script of “That Thing Called Tadhana” by Dan Villegas. After he read the script, JM liked the story and imagined playing the male lead. He prayed that he gets the role.

He met Direk Tonette over dinner and told her he wants to do the movie. At that time, JM has no idea yet as to who will play the female lead. Upon learning that Angelica was picked as the lead actress, JM felt nervous, fearing that he might not get the role. “I was kind of worried the ABS-CBN bosses might say I am not good enough to be Angelica’s partner so I was really happy when I got the part,” related JM.

JM considers it a blessing to have worked with Angelica. “It was fun working with her. She is not only a good actress but a good person as well. She’s very professional. I learned a lot from her like how to attack a character or how to prepare for a scene. And she is fun to be with. Off camera, we talk. She is really kalog.”

JM is likewise pleased that he is busy working. He has certainly moved on after that tumultuous episode in his life. While he is already over the hump, he is still cautious, not wanting to commit the same mistakes that caused him to quit showbiz for a while. He said he has to maintain his focus so as not to neglect his career anew.

He now gets his high by being involved in sports. When not working, he is into boxing, wrestling or muay thai. Or he runs to get his adrenalin going.

JM is set to do an indie film titled “Papa’s Boy” for Cinema Bro, a new film arm of Star Cinema, that will co-star him with Edgar Allan Guzman.
