On the 3rd day of the Papal Visit, January 17, Saturday, bibiyahe si Pope Francis pa-Leyte.
Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle considers Pope Francis’ lunch with the Yolanda survivors as the most important part of his visit. He says, “Ito ang puso ng kanyang pagbisita sa Pilipinas, para ipakita ang kanyang malasakit, habag at pagdamay sa mga biktima ng bagyong Yolanda.”

Pero magdaraos din si Pope Francis ng tatlong liturgical celebrations sa Leyte:
– Concelebrated Mass near the Tacloban Airport;
– Blessing of the Pope Francis Center for the Poor; and
– Visit Palo Cathedral to meet with the Visayan clergy

8:15 am – Departure for Tacloban City, from the Villamor Air Base
9:30 am – Arrival in Tacloban City
10:00 am – Concelebrated Mass near the Tacloban Airport. Bukas sa publiko ang misang ito at tinatayang isang milyong tao ang dadalo. Gagamitin ang mga dialects sa Samar-Leyte area, pati na rin ang Latin at English sa misa.
Sakaling masyadong maraming tao ang pupunta sa motorcade route ni Pope Francis papuntang Palo, Leyte, at hindi na makadaan ang Popemobile, sabi ng Papal Visit organizers, posibleng i-airlift na lang si Pope Francis papuntang Palo.
12:45 pm – Archbishop’s Residence sa Palo manananghalian si Pope Francis kasama ng 30 na survivors ng mga trahedya ng Bohol earthquake at Typhoon Yolanda. Sila ang kumakatawan sa dalamhati at kawalan ng pag-asang dinala ng mga pangyayari sa Bohol at Leyte. Inaasahang magiging encounter of faith ang pananghaliang ito.

3:00 pm – Blessing ng Pope Francis Center for the poor. Ang bagong-tayong center na ito malapit sa Archbishop’s Residence sa Palo, Leyte ay magiging tahanan para sa mga mahihirap, matatanda, may kapansanan, mga ulila, at mga kapus-palad.

3:30 pm – Bibisita naman si Pope Francis sa Palo Cathedral. Ang Palo Cathedral of Transfiguration ay mahigit 100 years nang nakatayo, pero nasira rin ito dahil sa Typhoon Yolanda. Magkakaroon dito ng Encounter with the Religious of Visayas, kung saan may maikling dasal, gospel proclamation, at Message from the Holy Father.
Posible ring mabasbasan ang mass grave sa tabi ng Palo Cathedral.
5:00 pm - Departure for Manila
6:15 pm – Arrival in Manila, at the Villamor Air Base; Pope Francis will go straight to the Apostolic Nunciature
